I’m a photographer, wildlife artist, and a retired Graphic Designer/Art Director. I’m also a bilateral stroke and two-time breast cancer survivor. I’m an avid reader and daydreamer, and a professional-level procrastinator. I’m a 2 cat/1 dog parent, married for 38 years with two lovely stepdaughters and four grandchildren.
I’ve created this Substack to share the things I love to photograph, mostly wetland birds and shorebirds, flowers, and abstract patterns. I’m not here to discuss photography techniques. There are plenty of people who provide that info and in reality, I know just enough to get by. I'm also a self-taught wildlife artist working at first in watercolor and eventually graduating to acrylics so some of my paintings may pop up from time to time. I hope to post an image each day (but you know…life) and once a week or so, create a longer post about the photos or paintings as well as sharing some of the things that got me to this point in my life. Here’s one of my favorite photographs, a backlit Great Egret, preening its glorious breeding plumage in the early morning light. How can anyone pass by all that beauty without stopping to admire absolute perfection?
The images I post are copyright protected and most are available on my website here so please drop by for a visit. I’ll never hide my posts behind a paywall so to help support my work, please consider subscribing, purchasing a print or notecards or you can send a donation by clicking on this link:
Please feel free to share my Substack and I hope you enjoy the content!
Wow, wow, and wow! Herons, cranes, and rest of the “we don’t mind getting our feet wet” crowd of birds are amazing beings.
Welcome, Sandra! Thank you for sharing your photos and knowledge with us. Excited based on what you've shared so far
